Floored, Pt 1…

July 21, 2013

Small progress, but one of those little jobs that when complete will look like a nice leap forward. Welding day is still on hold, but that’s no bad thing as I’ve had a kind offer of assistance from a friend of a friend to etch the VIN number onto some steel plate for me and that’ll be yet another item on the list of parts to attach to the chassis…

Having flipped the chassis last weekend I roughly marked up the old pub sign using a pencil (surprisingly effective on sheet aluminium) and set about cutting using the jigsaw. Despite, in fact – quite possibly because of, the softness of the material it was not as simple a task as I had hoped. Three snapped jigsaw blades confirm this and a quick attempt with the angle grinder didn’t fare any better. I suspect it is because of the soft aluminium clogging the blade. With some work still to do the floor panel is at least starting to take shape – and is already doing a good job of making the chassis look that little bit more complete.

The floor panel begins to emerge!
